Donate a Book to The SM Store and Share the Gift of Knowledge
It’s almost time to go back to school! Shoppers are busy with their school lists, making sure their students’ needs are complete before a new school year opens. This is also timely for The SM Store’s Donate-A-Book campaign that’s currently ongoing at all branches nationwide.
The donate a book project is under the SM Share Movement, by which The SM Store encourages giving hearts to share their blessings.
Donate-A-Book is ongoing until July 7. Shoppers can donate books and school supplies to The SM Store. Every donation made entitles a customer to a P50 discount coupon that can be used at specific departments of The SM Store. More importantly, all donations are given to elementary students at selected schools supported by SM Foundation.
Trip to Balanga Elementary School
Last May, employee-volunteers from The SM Store branches of Pampanga and Olongapo distributed donations at Balanga Elementary School in Pampanga. They also had a fun-filled day with the Grade 3 students!
The books that shoppers gave filled up the mini-library at the two-storey school building donated by SM Foundation. Aside from books, the volunteers also brought the students bags and school supplies. Just in time, too! A brand new school year would be starting soon.
Stories from the Heart
Not only were books and supplies delivered to the school, the students were treated to stories as well. At the helm of the sessions was the The Story Telling Project (TSP), an NGO partner of SM. Through fun and enthusiastic storytelling, TSP aims to spark hope, inspiration and imagination. Teachers and parents can learn from this, too!
Said Rey Bufi, TSP executive director, “We are aligned with the mission of The SM Store Share Movement Donate-A-Book campaign and Balanga Elementary School to make reading and enjoyable experience for children.” He also added that it helps when reading is a regular habit, especially in this age when children are often distracted tech and gadgets.
The principal of Balanga Elementary School agrees. Amy Inieto shared that they value this crucial academic skill because it is the foundation for learning. They also have a program to reinforce reading habits to learners, Amy added.
Books for Communities
The giving hearts of shoppers can make this happen in Bacolod, too! The SM Store Bacolod encourages customers of the store and the mall to be part of the SM Share Movement Donate-A-Book campaign.
This is happening at all The SM Store branches nationwide. It is among The SM Store’s quarterly donation drives: shoes, books, toys, and hygiene kits. These items are given to underprivileged communities and those areas struck by calamities.
Joseph Rosal, Senior AVP for Operations of The SM Store said that their donation drives is a good avenue for shoppers who are looking for ways to give back. He said, “We want The SM Store to become the venue for people to come together and foster the true Filipino spirit of sharing or ‘bayanihan’.”
